Saale Aashiq Review: Tahir Raj Bhasin Shines in a Brave Story That Doesn’t Always Hold Together

This Hindi romantic drama takes on family pressure, caste, and hate, but its conventional moments keep it from hitting as hard as it should.

    Saale Aashiq Review

    Saale Aashiq Review: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

Saale Aashiq has an important story and a very good lead performance from Tahir Raj Bhasin. The subject is brave, but uneven pacing and a few predictable dramatic beats stop it from being a truly powerful watch.

    Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
    Platform: JioHotstar
    Genre: Romantic Drama
Directors: Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal
Cast: Tahir Raj Bhasin, Mithila Palkar, Chunky Panday
    Runtime: 2 hours 2 minutes

Love stories in Hindi cinema are everywhere. Love stories that look at what happens when a couple dares to love against the wishes of their families are far less common. Saale Aashiq belongs to that second group, and it deserves some credit for choosing a difficult subject instead of playing it safe.

The story follows Shatru, played by Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Gudia, played by Mithila Palkar. Their relationship runs straight into old traditions, caste and family politics, and hatred that slowly turns dangerous. Soon the couple is facing a death threat, and the question is no longer just whether they can be together, but whether they can stay safe.

What makes the film interesting is the choice the couple makes. They don’t simply quietly slip away from their town. They decide to stay and fight for their freedom, and that gives the story a stronger spine than a regular romance.

Tahir Raj Bhasin is the best part of the film. He plays Shatru with a mix of vulnerability, control, and quiet anger, and you can feel a young man trying to stay calm while the world around him gets more hostile. Mithila Palkar is sincere as Gudia and makes the couple’s bond feel believable.

Chunky Panday is the real surprise. He steps away from the comic roles most people know him for and plays a cold, hard antagonist who genuinely feels threatening. The supporting cast, which includes Darshan Jariwala, Tanvi Azmi, and Vrajesh Hirjee, adds good support to the family drama.

The film tries to go beyond a standard love story template. It looks at social pressure and the way people are pushed to follow rules they never chose. The cinematography, music, and background score are all handled well, and they help build the tense mood the story needs.

If you enjoy dramas that carry a real message, this one is worth your time. Our review of Ishqa Ishqa, another romantic thriller that asks when love turns into control, deals with a similar kind of discomfort, so it might suit your taste too.

The biggest problem is the pacing. Some stretches feel slow, and a few dramatic moments are exactly what you expect them to be. When a film takes on such heavy themes, viewers want it to feel sharper and more surprising. Here, the idea is bolder than the execution, and the emotional punch gets weaker as the story goes on.

Saale Aashiq is not a perfect film, but it is an honest and brave attempt. Tahir Raj Bhasin’s performance and the serious topic make it worth a watch, even if the writing doesn’t always keep up. Think of it as a decent drama with a strong heart and a few missed chances.
