Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba Review: Taapsee, Vikrant & Sunny Deliver a Stylish & Intriguing Thriller

Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba Review: Taapsee, Vikrant & Sunny Deliver a Stylish & Intriguing Thriller

Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba is a gripping sequel to the 2021 film Haseen Dilruba, directed by Jayprad Desai and written by Kanika Dhillon. The film stars Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Sunny Kaushal, reprising their roles in a story that blends romance, thriller, and mystery elements.

The narrative picks up with Rani Kashyap (Taapsee Pannu) and Rishu Saxena (Vikrant Massey) on the run in Agra, evading the police and planning their escape from the country. Their plans are thwarted by a new adversary, leading to a complex web of deceit, love, and danger. The film’s setting shifts from the quaint town of Jwalapur to the bustling city of Agra, adding a fresh backdrop to the unfolding drama.

One of the film’s strengths lies in its character development. Vikrant Massey delivers a standout performance as Rishu, showcasing a commendable character arc from the first film. His portrayal of a man torn between love and survival is both compelling and heartfelt. Taapsee Pannu, while consistent in her role as Rani, sometimes feels repetitive, but her chemistry with Massey remains a highlight. Sunny Kaushal, as the meek yet intense Abhimanyu, adds depth to the story, and his dynamic with Pannu is intriguing.

The film’s cinematography captures the essence of Agra beautifully, with its narrow lanes and historic landmarks providing a rich visual experience. The atmospheric setting enhances the film’s suspenseful tone, making the city almost a character in itself.

However, Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba is not without its flaws. The screenplay, while ambitious, sometimes tries to pack in too much, leading to convoluted plot points and illogical decisions. The film’s focus shifts from the intriguing mystery of the first installment to a more straightforward chase, which dilutes the suspenseful elements that made the original so compelling. The cat-and-mouse game between Rani, Rishu, and the police becomes predictable, lacking the edge-of-the-seat tension that the first film delivered.

Despite these shortcomings, the film manages to keep the audience engaged with its stylish aesthetic and talented cast. The addition of new characters, such as the dogged cop Montu (Jimmy Shergill) and the wily Abhimanyu, adds fresh layers to the story. Shergill, in particular, shines in his role, bringing a sense of menace and determination to his character.

In conclusion, Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba is an engaging sequel that, while not as captivating as its predecessor, offers enough thrills and drama to keep viewers entertained. With tighter writing and more focused storytelling, it could have been a memorable follow-up. Nonetheless, it remains a stylish and intriguing film that fans of the original will likely appreciate.
