Mere Husband Ki Biwi Movie Review: A Confused Comedy That Fails to Impress

Mere Husband Ki Biwi Movie Review: A Confused Comedy That Fails to Impress

    Director: Mudassar Aziz
Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, Harsh Gujral

Mudassar Aziz, known for delivering entertaining films like Happy Bhag Jayegi and Pati Patni Aur Woh, attempts to bring another comedy with Mere Husband Ki Biwi. However, despite its promising title, the film turns out to be a chaotic mess, failing to provide either humor or a coherent storyline.

    Plot Overview

The story follows Ankur Chaddha (Arjun Kapoor), a businessman from Delhi who is traumatized by his ex-wife Prabhleen Chaddha (Bhumi Pednekar). From the beginning, Prabhleen is portrayed as a dominating and fierce woman who made Ankur’s life miserable. However, they are now separated, and Ankur tries to move on with his life.

Ankur’s loyal friend Qureshi (Harsh Gujral) supports him through thick and thin. During a business trip to Rishikesh, Ankur reconnects with his college crush Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh). As they rekindle their bond, Ankur shares details of his past with Prabhleen. Unlike what was initially shown, Prabhleen turns out to be an independent, career-driven woman working for a news channel. Their marriage suffered because of her professional commitments, leading to their separation.

Just when Ankur and Antara decide to marry, Prabhleen unexpectedly returns. Due to an accident, she loses her memory and remembers only her marriage with Ankur but not their separation. This leads to a love triangle filled with confusion and rivalry, where both women fight to win Ankur’s love.

    What Works?

    • Bhumi Pednekar’s Performance: Among the cast, Bhumi brings some energy to the screen with her bold and confident portrayal of Prabhleen.
    • Decent Premise: The idea of a memory loss-based love triangle had potential for an engaging rom-com.

    What Doesn’t Work?

    • Weak Screenplay: The film lacks direction and feels all over the place, making it difficult to stay invested in the narrative.
    • Forced Comedy: The dialogues are supposed to be funny, but they fail to evoke laughter. The jokes feel outdated and forced.
    • Overacting: Most of the performances, especially Arjun Kapoor’s, come across as exaggerated and unnatural, making it hard to connect with the characters.
    • Predictable & Stretched Plot: The story drags unnecessarily, and the lack of depth in character development makes it a tiring watch.

    Final Verdict

Mere Husband Ki Biwi could have been a light-hearted entertainer, but it loses itself in confusion. The film neither delivers on its comedic promise nor offers an engaging love triangle. With an incoherent script, over-the-top acting, and weak humor, it feels more frustrating than fun. If you’re looking for a solid rom-com, you might want to skip this one.
