May December is a 2023 American film, combining elements of black comedy and drama, directed by Todd Haynes. The screenplay, penned by Samy Burch and based on a story by Burch and Alex Mechanik, tells the story of an actress played by Natalie Portman. She embarks on a journey to Georgia to meet and delve into the life of a contentious woman, portrayed by Julianne Moore, whom she’s slated to depict in a film. The narrative draws loose inspiration from the story of Mary Kay Letourneau.

May December is estimated to be made on a budget of around US $35 million. Filming occurred in Savannah, Georgia, and concluded in November 2022 after a 23-day shoot. Edward Lachman was initially slated to be the cinematographer but had to be replaced by Christopher Blauvelt due to Lachman’s hip injury. The original script was initially situated in Camden, Maine, but it was later adapted to the Savannah setting.
