Love for Tea Can Make You Sick – Know the Right Amount of Tea to Drink in a Day

Tea is one of the most loved drinks around the world, especially in India. For many people, the day doesn’t feel complete without two cups of tea. In moderate amounts, tea can actually be beneficial for health in several ways. It can be enjoyed in many forms, but a common question remains—how much tea is safe to drink in a day?

How Many Cups of Tea Are Safe per Day?

According to the FDA, an adult should not consume more than 400 mg of caffeine in a day. When it comes to tea, 3 to 4 cups per day is considered safe for most people without causing any side effects. However, this limit can vary depending on the person and the type of tea.

Milk tea with sugar is not considered very healthy, while green tea or black tea can be consumed in slightly higher quantities. Herbal teas are believed to be the healthiest option, especially in winter, as they help prevent seasonal illnesses.

Side Effects of Drinking Too Much Tea

Tea contains caffeine, tannins, fluoride, and antioxidants, which can be harmful when consumed in excess. Overconsumption of tea may lead to problems such as:

    • Reduced iron absorption
    • Nausea and vomiting
    • Acidity or heartburn
    • Mouth ulcers
    • Poor sleep quality
    • Complications during pregnancy
    • Throat or food pipe issues from drinking very hot tea
    • Weight gain
    • Risk of kidney stones due to high oxalate content

So, while tea can be a comforting and even healthy drink, it’s important to enjoy it in moderation to avoid health problems.
