Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, widely known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, passed away at the age of 89. His last rites were performed at the Vile Parle crematorium. Members of his family, along with actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Akshay Kumar, were present to pay their respects.
Dharmendra had been battling age-related health issues for some time. On November 10, he experienced difficulty breathing and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He was discharged on November 12, with doctors recommending further treatment at home.
Dharmendra had been living at the Deol bungalow in Juhu, where his son Sunny Deol was by his side. His first wife Prakash and their daughters were also with him at home. Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan arrived at the Vile Parle crematorium to bid farewell. An official statement regarding Dharmendra’s health is still awaited.
“An end of an era” – Karan Johar
Film director Karan Johar posted on Instagram about Dharmendra’s passing:
“This is the end of an era… a massive megastar… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome with the most enigmatic screen presence… He is and always will be a true legend of Indian cinema… immortalized in the glorious pages of film history.”

Acted in over 300 films
Dharmendra was one of the most respected and beloved stars of Hindi cinema. In a career spanning more than seven decades, he appeared in over 300 films, including blockbusters like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Seeta Aur Geeta, and Dharam Veer. Many of his dialogues remain iconic even today, especially the famous line from Sholay: “Basanti, in kutton ke aage mat naachna.”
Last film to release next month
Even at 89, Dharmendra remained active in films. Recently, he was seen in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, where he once again impressed audiences with his performances. He will also appear in Ikkis, starring Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda. This is Dharmendra’s final film, scheduled to release on December 25 this year. Sadly, the actor passed away before witnessing its release.
