Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann’s nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, which was published in 2017. The film will centre on a series of murders that occurred in the 1920s in the Osage Nation, an Oklahoma Native American tribe, after oil was discovered on tribal land. The cattleman William Hale (played by De Niro in the movie) masterminded the murders, which drew the attention of the FBI, which had only recently been formed.
