In a significant move towards enhancing passenger experience, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has forged a partnership with Swiggy, a leading food delivery platform in India. This collaboration aims to provide passengers with the convenience of ordering and receiving pre-ordered meals directly at select railway stations through IRCTC’s e-catering portal.

The announcement of this strategic alliance was made by IRCTC through a market filing, signaling a new era in railway catering services. With the integration of Swiggy’s efficient delivery network and IRCTC’s e-catering platform, passengers can now enjoy a wide variety of food options delivered right to their train coaches.

While IRCTC has not specified the exact date of the launch of this new service, it has assured that it will be available soon. Initially, the food delivery service will be rolled out at four major railway stations, namely Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. These stations are strategically chosen to cater to a significant passenger footfall and provide a seamless dining experience for travelers.

According to the statement released by IRCTC, passengers can place their meal orders through the IRCTC e-catering portal. The corporation has partnered with M/s. Bundl Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (Swiggy Foods) for the supply and delivery of pre-ordered meals as a Proof of Concept (PoC) in the initial phase. The collaboration aims to streamline the food delivery process and ensure timely service to passengers.

It aligns with IRCTC’s mission to leverage technology and innovation to improve customer satisfaction and convenience.

In addition to its collaboration with IRCTC, Swiggy has recently made headlines with its expansion to Agatti island in Lakshadweep. This move makes Swiggy the first online food delivery service to operate in the region, further consolidating its position as a leading player in the food delivery market.

The company has partnered with local eateries, including AFC Fried Chicken, City Hotel, and Mubarak Hotel, to offer a diverse range of cuisines to customers. Deliveries will be made on bicycles, ensuring an eco-friendly approach to food delivery.

Overall, these developments highlight the commitment of IRCTC and Swiggy to enhance accessibility and convenience for passengers, whether they are traveling by train or residing in remote locations like Lakshadweep. With innovative solutions and strategic partnerships, both companies are poised to redefine the landscape of railway catering and food delivery services in India.
