Laxman Utekar’s period epic Chhaava, based on the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, hit theatres on Valentine’s Day amidst high expectations. Made on a grand scale, the film generated immense buzz before its release, and early box office trends suggest a record-breaking opening.
Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 1
According to trade analysts, Chhaava witnessed an impressive advance booking, selling nearly 5 lakh tickets across India. As per Sacnilk, this resulted in an advance booking gross of ₹13.79 crore, one of the highest for a Bollywood film in recent times. Industry experts predict that the film will comfortably cross the ₹20 crore mark on its opening day, with potential to reach ₹22 crore in net domestic collections. If these numbers hold, Chhaava will surpass Sky Force (₹15.30 crore) to become the biggest Bollywood opener of 2025 so far.
By midday, reports suggested that Chhaava had already amassed ₹6 crore net across India. The collections are expected to rise further in the evening, benefiting from the Valentine’s Day rush. The film is also set to become Vicky Kaushal’s highest opening-day grosser, beating the ₹8.20 crore debut of Uri: The Surgical Strike.
Beyond personal milestones for Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava could also break industry records. Currently, Gully Boy holds the title for the highest Valentine’s Day opening in Bollywood, earning ₹19.40 crore in 2019. With its strong advance bookings and positive momentum, Chhaava is on track to surpass that benchmark.
