There has been ongoing speculation over whether the Asia Cup 2025 will take place or not. India is the designated host for the tournament, but since Pakistan is also a participating team, discussions have been underway about holding the event at a neutral venue. Now, a major update has emerged – the tournament might be shifted from India to the UAE. However, the BCCI will consult with the Indian government before making a final decision on whether to host the event in the UAE.
According to the proposed schedule, the Asia Cup is set to begin on 5 September 2025, with a high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash scheduled for 7 September.
Proposal for UAE Was Prepared in Advance
Sources suggest that the proposal to shift the Asia Cup 2025 to the UAE was prepared even before the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Since that attack, India has cut off all kinds of relations, including sporting ties, with Pakistan, which it accuses of sheltering terrorists.
Three Proposed Venues in the UAE
If the tournament gets the green light to be held in the UAE, matches will likely be hosted across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. However, if the Indian government does not approve the plan, the BCCI is also considering organising a multi-nation series during the same window. This could include India, an Asia team, and another major cricketing nation.

BCCI Wants ACC Meeting Venue Changed
Meanwhile, the BCCI has also requested the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to shift the venue of its upcoming meeting. Originally scheduled for 24 May in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the BCCI has made it clear that it will not attend the meeting if it takes place there.
Citing political instability and current conditions in Bangladesh, the BCCI feels it’s not the right time to travel to the country. For the same reasons, India’s scheduled tour of Bangladesh – consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is – has also been postponed until 2026.
In summary, the Asia Cup 2025 may be held in the UAE, but the final call rests with the Indian government. If denied, the BCCI could move forward with an alternative tri-nation series instead.
