Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao returns to the big screen in a brand-new avatar with his gangster-drama film “Maalik,” which released in theatres on 11th July. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film has managed to win the audience’s hearts on its very first day. Now, the opening day box office collection is out.
Maalik Takes a Slow Start but Breaks Records
Maalik had a slightly slow start at the box office, but it still managed to break the opening day record of 10 other films. According to a report by Sacnilk, Maalik collected ₹3.35 crore on its first day at the Indian box office.
Clash with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan
Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik clashed at the box office with Vikrant Massey’s film Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan. In terms of collections, Maalik outperformed Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan by a big margin. While Maalik earned ₹3.35 crore on Day 1, the Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor starrer could only manage ₹35 lakh.
Rajkummar Rao Breaks Records of 10 Other Films
On its opening day, Maalik surpassed the Day 1 earnings of 10 other 2025 releases, including:
- Fateh – ₹2.61 crore
- Azaad – ₹1.50 crore
- Emergency – ₹3.11 crore
- Lavyapa – ₹1.25 crore
- Superboys of Malegaon – ₹50 lakh
- Crazy – ₹1.10 crore
- Ground Zero – ₹1.20 crore
- The Bhootni – ₹1.19 crore
- Kesri Veer – ₹25 lakh
- Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan – ₹35 lakh
Star Cast and Budget of Maalik
Maalik is directed by Pulkit under the banners of Tips Industries Limited and Northern Lights Films. According to media reports, the film is made on a budget of ₹50 crore. Rajkummar Rao plays the lead role, while Manushi Chhillar stars as his wife. The film also features Prosenjit Chatterjee and Huma Qureshi in important roles.
