Growth of Digital Voice Technology During Pandemic

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, voice technology has taken a step ahead, the parameter of social distancing and touching only what’s necessary has become a worldwide norm. This precautionary approach has given rise to a new different technology branch. These are the “Voice Activated Systems”.

The world of technology greatly improves itself every day. New upgrade in technology, from wearables to machinery, everything has seen a rapid increase in growth in the past few years. According to ABI Research, a market foresight company, the voice control device shipments in 2019 hit 141 million.

And as per the predictions, the numbers could increase by 30% worldwide this year which could account for almost 4.2 billion devices in-use in 2020. But one question that arises is that how these voice-activated services are seeing a large boom in terms of applications all over the globe in this period?

The answer is: their vast majority of applications let them handle most of the chores of your daily life. Voice-activated assistants such as Google Home, Amazon’s Alexa, and Apple’s Siri can perform almost every vocational task provided to them.

Your voice assistant could help you make calendar events, set reminders, help you with your shopping list, and find smart ways to control your home network devices. In a nutshell, they can store and run your professional and personal information without letting you move a finger.

And that’s what you can observe in the current period. As more and more people are becoming contact-conscious to general inventory, the voice assistant could play a vital role for a user.

These smart devices are able to control basic chores through voice activation including touching TV remotes, lights, fans, and even doorknobs.

Experts at ABI suggests that people are becoming more alert to lockdown situations. This is allowing them to choose such options to minimize social interaction.

This type of awareness has given a prominent solution in the form of smart door locks and security features. Adding to the fewer touchpoints ideology is the idea that smart home devices could give rise to better solutions at workplaces and rental properties.

This is where there is a high probability of touching common things or surfaces by us. These devices will be pre-installed with a set of commands that would help anyone using them.

Subsequently, this non-contact approach of having fewer touchpoints is aimed to be continued post-coronavirus spread also. And the very reason is that most of the time is spent by people staying indoors and working from home. This has made them increase the usage of such devices.

For example, Amazon recently launched a program on Alexa called “Mayo”. The chatbot program is made available for the users where they can ask their queries on the symptoms, latest updates, and current conditions on the COVID-19 outbreak.

As for now, the analysts also suggest that the consumer industry which includes our industrial sectors, the healthcare system, and the entertainment industry will have to find such solutions that would aid a customer without letting themselves jump into the danger.

We know that this approach can take time to get along with our historic ways to tackle such situations but as a matter of interest, these practices could decrease the spread of such viruses in the future too.
