Jailer 2 Trailer Review: Rajinikanth Is Back With a Swag That Is Out of Control

Cameos, explosions, and Tiger Muthuvel Pandian's return make this a trailer worth watching twice

    Jailer 2 Trailer Review

Can Rajinikanth finally give Kollywood its first Rs 1,000 crore hit? After watching the Jailer 2 trailer, it is hard to say no. Sun Pictures released it on October 5, and the film arrives in theatres worldwide on October 15. If you missed the first look, the Jailer 2 teaser is a good place to start.

    What the Trailer Shows

The story picks up after the first film. Back then, Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer, took on an idol smuggling network. Now that same network has turned against him. The trailer shows Tiger living a quiet life in a remote village, working as a driver. That peace does not last. His old allies and new enemies come looking for him, and his past catches up fast.

The best part is how the trailer treats Tiger. In the first film, he did very little of the violence himself. His name and influence did the work, and powerful men followed his orders without question. The trailer suggests that clout has only grown. Old friends are back, and a few heavy new names have joined his circle.

    The Cast and Cameos

The guest list is long, and the trailer only gives small glimpses.

ActorWhat We See in the Trailer
    RajinikanthReturns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian
SJ SuryahAppears prominently, likely a major antagonist
Vidya BalanTamil debut, role kept secret
    MohanlalBrief glimpse
    Jackie ShroffBrief glimpse
    Shiva RajkumarBrief glimpse
Suraj VenjaramooduLooks menacing as a new threat named Dileep
Yogi BabuReturns as Vimal for the humour

Vijay Sethupathi, whose role was confirmed earlier, does not appear in the trailer at all. Fans are also talking about a silhouette near the end that many believe is Hrithik Roshan. Nothing is confirmed, so treat it as internet talk for now.

    Villains and Story Clues

Some fans think the new villain Dileep is driven by the death of Varman from the first film. Others point to a bigger syndicate called The Kalpaks, which may be the real target of Tiger’s mission. Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, and SJ Suryah seem to be tied to that group. One fun detail is that Mithun appears to play a character in a wheelchair, which is a playful reversal of their roles in Guru.

There is also a line where Tiger says the current style is to call all your enemies under one roof and blow the place up. A building explodes right behind him as he walks away. It is a great moment, but it does make you wonder if the trailer gave away too much.

    What Works

The swag is clear in almost every shot. Rajinikanth looks powerful, and Tiger already feels like one of his most memorable characters of this century. The humour from the first film is back, and so is the brutal action. Anirudh’s background score sounds solid again, which matters a lot for a film like this.

The trailer also feels well paced. It builds excitement without explaining the plot. That is a good sign for a sequel that has a lot to live up to.

    What Worries Us

The biggest worry is the cameos. When a film has this many guest stars, it can lose focus and turn into a parade of famous faces. That was a problem in Coolie, and the memory is still fresh. There is also the hope of a Rs 1,000 crore total, which sounds exciting but comes with risk. Films like Toxic and Kanguva also carried huge promises and fell short.

The A rating is another small concern. The first film was violent, and the sequel looks just as bloody. Fans will hope it avoids the restricted rating that Coolie received.

    Our Verdict

The Jailer 2 trailer delivers what it needs to. It has swag, scale and a fun sense of humour. Whether it becomes a true blockbuster depends on one thing, which is whether the story stays strong when the screen is crowded with stars.

If this film disappoints, the dream project that Nelson was meant to make with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan may never happen. So the stakes are high for everyone involved.

While you wait for October 15, there is another trailer worth your time this week. The Tu Hai Meri Kiran trailer review looks at how Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal bring real-life romance and reel-life obsession to the screen.

Jailer 2 releases in theatres worldwide on October 15, 2026.
