The Revolutionaries Gets a Release Date - Here is When to Watch It on Prime Video

Prime Video has locked in September 11, 2026, as the worldwide premiere date for The Revolutionaries, and this one has been building anticipation for a while now. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the series is being positioned as one of the platform’s bigger period drama releases this year, and the subject matter alone gives it plenty of weight.

The show is a Hindi Original at its core, but Prime Video is also offering dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali, along with English and other international subtitle options. That kind of wide release usually signals a platform betting big on a title, and The Revolutionaries certainly fits that mould.

    The Revolutionaries Story

The series draws its material from historian and author Sanjeev Sanyal’s book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom. Rather than retelling the more familiar chapters of India’s independence movement, the show turns its attention to a group of young revolutionaries whose role in the freedom struggle has not always gotten the spotlight in mainstream retellings.

    The Revolutionaries First Look

Set in the decades following the Revolt of 1857, the story follows these young men and women as they organise against British rule, driven by the belief that armed resistance was the only way to challenge a colonial power. Expect secret networks, political conspiracies, and a fair amount of personal sacrifice woven through the narrative, since that is very much the world these characters were operating in.

    The Cast Leading the Show

The Revolutionaries brings together an interesting mix of actors stepping into historical roles. Bhuvan Bam plays Rash Behari Bose, Rohit Saraf takes on Sachindranath Sanyal, Pratibha Ranta plays Pratibha Lahiri, and Gurfateh Pirzada portrays Bagha Jatin. These four headline the series as central figures within the underground revolutionary movement.

Jason Shah appears as General Dyer, adding a significant historical antagonist to the mix, while the ensemble cast also includes Pratik Motwani, Paoli Dam, and Tota Roy Chowdhury in key supporting roles. It is a fairly stacked lineup, blending newer faces with more established names, which should help the show appeal to a wide range of viewers.

Behind the Scenes: Meet the Crew

Filming for The Revolutionaries took place across multiple locations in India, including Mumbai, Amritsar, Varanasi, and Dehradun, giving the production a genuine sense of place rather than relying on a single backdrop for the entire story. The production design is led by Surabhi Verma, with costume design handled by Sakshi Goel, and the art department rounded out by Ankit Gupta and Rohit Nalawade, among others.

The series is written by Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang, and Rutvi Mehta and produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under their Emmay Entertainment banner. For Advani, this marks another Prime Video collaboration following his earlier work on Mumbai Diaries and Freedom at Midnight, both of which leaned into historical and socio-political storytelling, a space he has clearly grown comfortable working in over the past few years.

What makes The Revolutionaries stand out is its choice to focus on lesser-known figures from India’s independence movement rather than retreading familiar ground.

Advani has described the project as a character-driven action drama, and given his track record with films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, D-Day, Batla House, and Satyameva Jayate, there is reason to expect a series that balances historical weight with genuine emotional stakes.

With a strong ensemble cast, a wide simultaneous release across languages, and source material rooted in real, underexplored history, The Revolutionaries looks set to be one of the more talked-about premieres this September. Mark your calendars for September 11, when the show goes live exclusively on Prime Video.
