5-Day Dry Spell in Delhi: Check the Dates When Liquor Sale Will Be Prohibited

Important news has emerged for liquor consumers in Delhi. It is being reported that the national capital will observe a five-day “dry day,” during which residents will not be able to purchase alcohol. This decision has been taken in view of upcoming festivals and important occasions. Apart from 26 January, Delhi will observe three dry days in March and one in February, during which the sale of alcohol will be completely prohibited. The Excise Department of the Delhi government has issued an official order declaring these dry days.

According to the order, all liquor shops across Delhi will remain closed on specific dates. This decision has been taken to maintain law and order in the city and to respect religious and national sentiments. As per the Excise Department’s notification, dry days will be observed in the capital on 26 January, 15 February, 21 March, 26 March, and 31 March.

On these days, the sale and serving of alcohol will be strictly prohibited at retail liquor shops, bars, and other establishments. However, partial relaxation has been given to hotels. Licensed hotels will be allowed to serve alcohol to their in-house guests even on dry days, but selling alcohol to outside customers will not be permitted.

Under Delhi’s excise policy, the sale of alcohol is banned on national holidays such as 26 January, 15 August, and 2 October, as well as on major religious festivals. The Excise Department says that keeping liquor shops closed on these occasions helps maintain peace in public places and reduces the chances of untoward incidents.
