Indian Railways has launched an experimental scheme for people travelling home during Diwali and other festivals. Under this scheme, if a passenger books both onward and return tickets together, they will get a 20% discount on the return ticket.
This offer will benefit those who use trains for both journeys to and from their hometown. Railways has introduced this scheme on an experimental basis considering the heavy rush and difficulties faced by passengers during the festive season.
Discount applicable only if both tickets are booked together
- Must be the same pair of trains: If you travel from Ahmedabad to Patna by Ahmedabad–Baruni Express (19484), the return ticket must be booked on the same pair’s return train, i.e., Baruni–Ahmedabad (19483).
- Ticket details must match: All details on both tickets must be identical – including source and destination, passenger name, age, distance, and class (Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, etc.).

According to Railways, to avail this discount, onward journey tickets for travel between 13 October and 26 October 2025 and return journey tickets for travel between 17 November and 1 December 2025 must be booked together. Booking for this scheme will begin on 14 August.
No discount on trains with dynamic pricing
The discount will not be applicable on Flexi Fare trains such as Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express, Suvidha Express, Vande Bharat Express, and Tejas Express. However, it will apply to all other categories, especially on-demand trains like festive special trains.
