Free TV, Watch Videos Without Internet: Know What D2M Technology Is

Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology has been gaining significant attention in India over the past few months. With continuous updates and news surrounding this service, public interest is steadily rising. Recent reports suggest that this technology might soon be launched for the general public.

Pilot projects have already been completed, the technology is technically ready, and the necessary devices have also been developed. However, the service is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. Once the government gives the green light, this technology could prove beneficial for millions of users across the country.

    What is D2M Technology?

The most remarkable aspect of D2M technology is that it does not require any wiring or broadband connection. Users won’t need a SIM card or an internet connection. With D2M, users will be able to watch TV channels on their mobile phones without using any internet. This means the technology will provide direct access to television and important information — all without consuming mobile data.

    What are the Benefits?

One major benefit of D2M technology is that it will reduce the load on mobile networks and lower data consumption. It will be especially useful in areas where setting up mobile towers or broadband lines is difficult. This includes forests and remote regions, where D2M can act as an alternative to internet-based services, providing access to information and entertainment.

    Who’s Behind the Tech?

Bengaluru-based Saankhya Labs, a part of Tejas Networks, has developed a special chip called the SL3000. This chip enables mobile phones to receive content directly through broadcast signals. The technology has been developed in collaboration with Free Stream Technologies, a company that originated from IIT Kanpur. The aim is to make mobile data more affordable, reduce network congestion, and deliver information to areas with limited media access.

American company Sinclair Broadcasting has also made significant investments in this field, with the goal of producing D2M-enabled mobile phones at affordable prices and making this technology accessible to a larger population.
