Mata Vaishno Devi Ropeway: Easy Darshan, Hours of Journey Completed in Minutes

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has decided to implement the much-awaited ropeway project to accommodate the increasing number of devotees and make the journey easier for elderly and differently-abled travelers. This initiative will not only make the journey to the Vaishno Devi temple safer but will also drastically reduce travel time. While some local residents have raised objections, the Shrine Board assures that their concerns will be taken into account during the implementation of the project.

The ropeway will connect the Tarakot route to the main temple. Devotees will travel to Sanjhi Chhat via the ropeway and then continue their journey on foot to the Mata’s temple. Every day, a large number of devotees visit the temple, which requires a 13-kilometer trek to reach the shrine. While physically fit travelers can easily manage this journey, the elderly, sick, or differently-abled need assistance like ponies, mules, or palkis. The ropeway will enable thousands of pilgrims to make the journey daily, reduce overcrowding on the traditional trekking route, and cut down the travel time from hours to just a few minutes.

Shrine Board CEO Anshul Garg stated that the project will be a game changer for devotees who are unable to make the arduous 13-kilometer climb to the temple. He assured that the concerns of local people will be addressed as the project is implemented.

Increasing Number of Devotees Every Year

Garg also highlighted that the number of devotees visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi temple is increasing every year. In 2023, the pilgrimage set a new record with 9.5 million visitors, and so far this year, 8.6 million devotees have visited the temple. Given this growth, the ropeway project has been given priority to provide better facilities for the millions of visitors.

    Modern Technology for the Ropeway

According to officials, the ropeway will connect the Tarakot route to the main temple area. The project is being planned with minimal environmental impact, and during the journey, devotees will be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the Trikuta hills, enhancing both the spiritual and natural experience of the pilgrimage.
