The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit horror-comedy film Stree launched on Independence Day, Thursday. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles. The movie is estimated to have earned ₹58.1 crore on its opening day in India.
Stree 2 Box Office Collection Day 1
Stree 2 held special opening premieres on Wednesday, where it grossed ₹8.35 crore. On its official opening day, the film made approximately ₹49.75 crore, bringing the total to an estimated ₹54.25 crore. This makes it the highest-grossing opening day of 2024, surpassing films like Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi) and Fighter.
These figures are record-breaking, especially considering it took six days for the original Stree to reach the same earnings in India. The film had a 77.09% occupancy rate on its opening day in Hindi, and Stree 2 now holds the record for the biggest opening for a Hindi film, second only to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹65.5 crore) last year. It has even outpaced Pathaan, which opened to ₹55 crore in Hindi in the same year.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 sees Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor reprising their roles from the original film. The story follows the residents of Chanderi, who are now haunted by Sarkata and seek help from Stree. The film also features several surprise cameos, with the makers keeping these appearances under wraps. Notably, Varun Dhawan returns as Bhediya and even features in a song with Shraddha Kapoor.
