Obliterated Netflix Review: Thrilling Blend of Action & Comedy

“Obliterated” offers a thrilling blend of action and comedy, weaving a narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats while injecting humor into high-stakes situations. Headlined by Nick Zano as Chad McKnight, the Navy SEAL team leader, and a diverse cast of characters played by talented actors, the series introduces an elite special forces team faced with a mission to save Las Vegas from a deadly threat.

Nick Zano’s portrayal of Chad McKnight brings charisma and leadership to the forefront, anchoring the team dynamic. The ensemble cast, featuring Shelley Hennig as CIA agent Ava Winters, Terrence Terrell as Navy SEAL Trunk, and Paola Lázaro as Marine sniper Angela Gomez, contributes to the series’ success by delivering engaging performances that add depth to their characters.

The initial twist, where the team realizes the bomb they deactivated was a fake after a celebratory party, sets the stage for a wild and unpredictable ride. The comedic element kicks in when the team, now intoxicated, must navigate the aftermath of their revelry to locate and defuse the real bomb. The juxtaposition of intense action sequences with moments of humor creates a unique tone, distinguishing “Obliterated” within the action dramedy genre.

The character dynamics add richness to the series. From the banter between team members to the interactions with supporting characters like the lounge singer Yani (played by Lindsey Kraft) and Maddox, the black-market operator portrayed by David Costabile, the relationships are both entertaining and integral to the plot. Carl Lumbly’s portrayal of Langdon, the Director of the CIA, adds a layer of authority and intrigue, further enhancing the complexity of the narrative.

The inclusion of diverse skills within the team, from an Army explosives technician played by C. Thomas Howell to an NSA agent portrayed by Kimi Rutledge, showcases the variety of talents needed to tackle the imminent threat. Eugene Kim’s role as Air Force pilot Paul Yung and Minnie Mills as Jen, Paul’s daughter, adds a personal touch to the overarching mission.

The series navigates through intense action sequences with well-executed choreography, elevating the stakes as the team races against time. The cinematography captures the vibrant energy of Las Vegas and complements the fast-paced narrative, creating an immersive viewing experience.

“Obliterated” also explores themes of trust, camaraderie, and the consequences of one’s actions. As the team grapples with the aftermath of their celebration and the discovery of the fake bomb, moral dilemmas arise, adding depth to the characters’ arcs.

While the premise may seem familiar, the execution and the cast’s chemistry breathe fresh life into the action dramedy genre. The inclusion of a diverse and talented ensemble, coupled with a well-crafted balance of action and humor, makes “Obliterated” a standout web series. For those seeking an adrenaline-pumping experience with a dose of humor, this series proves to be an enjoyable and engaging watch.
