The Bride! is an upcoming American science fiction horror film helmed, scripted, and co-produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal. It features a star-studded cast including Penélope Cruz, Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Julianne Hough. Drawing inspiration from James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, itself based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.
The Bride! Release Date
In August 2023, a fresh adaptation of Mary Shelley’s creations was unveiled for Netflix, with Maggie Gyllenhaal set to write and direct, starring Christian Bale and Peter Sarsgaard. However, Netflix withdrew from the project that same month, choosing to produce a separate Frankenstein film helmed by Guillermo del Toro. In November 2023, Warner Bros took over production of the adaptation. The film is slated for release in the United States on October 3, 2025, by Warner Bros Pictures.

The Bride! Plot
In a stormy castle night, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron commend Mary Shelley for her Frankenstein tale’s moral lesson. Mary hints at more to the story. The scene shifts to the windmill’s close from the 1931 movie, where the Monster survives.
It then follows the Monster’s encounters, including with Dr. Pretorius and the creation of a mate. Amidst chaos, the Bride rejects the Monster, leading to his decision to destroy them both. He sacrifices himself and the Bride by triggering the laboratory’s destruction, allowing Henry and Elizabeth to escape.
