RCB vs KKR Match Washed Out Due to Rain, IPL 2025 Playoff Scenario Changes

The 58th match of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), scheduled for Saturday night, 17 May, was washed out due to rain. As a result of this abandoned match, KKR has been eliminated from the tournament. Kolkata has become the fourth team to exit the playoff race, following Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Now, only six teams remain in contention for the playoffs — Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. RCB has climbed to the top of the points table and is currently the closest team to qualifying for the knockouts.

Let’s take a look at the updated playoff scenarios for each of the remaining teams:

    Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

After the washed-out match against KKR, RCB now holds the No.1 spot on the IPL 2025 points table. With 8 wins from 12 matches, the team has earned 17 points. However, they haven’t officially secured a playoff spot yet. On Sunday, 18 May, two key matches will take place — RR vs PBKS and DC vs GT. If either Punjab Kings or Delhi Capitals lose, RCB will officially qualify for the playoffs and become the first team to do so this season.

    Gujarat Titans (GT)

GT is set to play against Delhi Capitals today. With 8 wins in 11 matches, Gujarat is currently placed second on the points table. If they manage to beat Delhi, GT will qualify for the playoffs along with RCB. Both teams will then aim for a Top-2 finish.

    Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Punjab will face Rajasthan Royals today in their 12th match. With 15 points from 11 games, they are currently third on the table. If Punjab beats Rajasthan, they’ll move to 17 points, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs and potentially finish in the Top-2.

    Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai currently has 14 points with two matches remaining. To qualify, they must win both of their remaining games to reach 18 points. A single loss will leave them with a maximum of 16 points, making them dependent on other teams’ results.

    Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC has 13 points from 11 games. To stay alive in the playoff race, they must win at least two of their remaining three matches. However, it won’t be easy as their upcoming matches are against top teams — Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings. The clash against MI is particularly crucial for their playoff hopes.

    Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG is not officially out of the tournament yet. They can still reach a maximum of 16 points if they win all three of their remaining matches. Currently, they have 10 points from 11 games. To stay in the playoff race, they must win all three matches and improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). Even then, they will need favorable results from other matches.
