It seems Netflix may have accidentally let slip the release date for Squid Game’s final season, which was initially thought to be coming in 2025. After a three-year wait for season 2, which ended on a cliffhanger, fans were left wondering how long they’d have to wait for the next chapter. But now, it seems the wait may not be as long as expected, or perhaps Netflix is just playing the suspense game!

Netflix Teases Squid Game 3 Release Date

Squid Game, Netflix’s most-watched series of 2021, wrapped up its second season after winning six Primetime Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. But the ending left fans wanting more. The announcement of season 3 came through a teaser, which was quickly shared online.

In the teaser, featuring the eerie robot duo Young Hee and her new partner Chul Su, Netflix initially included a release date: June 27, 2025. However, this video, along with the date, was soon deleted from Netflix Korea’s YouTube channel, leaving fans curious and hopeful for confirmation.

Sharp-eyed viewers quickly noticed what looked like a slip-up from Netflix. The teaser showed the iconic “Jack and Jill” robot dolls starting a new game, with the video titled “Squid Game Season 3 2025 Release.” Fans are now debating whether it was a real mistake or a clever marketing move. Either way, they’re relieved to hear that the next season might be arriving sooner than expected.

About Squid Game Season 3

Although it’s being called Squid Game season 3, creator Hwang Dong Hyuk has clarified that it’s more of a continuation of season 2, or Part 2, rather than a traditional new season. Here’s why:
Originally, Hwang envisioned Squid Game as a single series. However, with its massive global success, the story grew too big to fit into just one season. The plot, which follows Gi Hun’s return to the game and his efforts to spark a revolt, was naturally split into two parts.

“The failure of Gi-hun’s revolt, his loss of his best friend—those events are important climaxes in the first part of the season, leading into season two,” Hwang explained in an interview with Variety.

Both seasons were filmed simultaneously, making this release a huge 14-episode storyline split into two parts. While Netflix is calling it season 3, it’s really a continuation of season 2, likely because viewers are eager to see the resolution to the cliffhangers.
