The trend of above-normal temperatures continues, with November this year being the hottest in the past five years. Both day and night temperatures were at their highest. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature fell below 10°C the latest since 2019. In 2019, the temperature dropped below 10°C on December 1. The average minimum temperature for November was 14.9°C, which is nearly 2°C higher than the Long Period Average (LPA) of 13°C. The sharp drop in minimum temperatures began on November 25, when it reached 14°C. The fall continued due to cold north-western winds and clear skies at night. According to IMD, the minimum temperature fell to 11.9°C on November 26, 10.4°C on November 27, and 10.1°C on November 28. On Friday, the temperature dropped below 10°C for the first time this season. IMD officials mentioned that the current cold wave towards the end of November is normal, but the overall warmth this season is above average due to a lack of rainfall and snowfall.
Impact of Western Disturbance
Meteorologists have indicated that the Western Disturbance affecting north-west India will cause a temporary rise of 1-2°C in night temperatures over the weekend. With snowfall expected in the northern mountain regions early next week, a further drop in temperatures is anticipated. October also saw above-average temperatures, with this year marking the hottest October in Delhi since 1951. The day and night temperatures in October were on average about 2°C above normal.
