Air India Launches In-Flight Wi-Fi Services on Domestic and International Routes

Air India announced on Wednesday the launch of Wi-Fi internet connectivity services on its domestic and international flights operated by Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft.

With this move, Air India has become the first airline in the country to offer in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic routes, enabling passengers to stay connected for both leisure and business purposes during their flights. However, the availability of the service depends on factors such as satellite connectivity, bandwidth usage, routes, and government regulations, the airline clarified.

Passengers can access the Wi-Fi service on compatible devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones running iOS or Android operating systems. The service also supports connecting multiple devices at the same time once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet.

The rollout of Wi-Fi on domestic routes follows a pilot programme on international flights operated by Airbus A350, select Airbus A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 aircraft, covering destinations such as New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. On domestic routes, Wi-Fi services will initially be offered free of charge as part of an introductory phase, with plans to gradually expand the service across more aircraft in the fleet.

Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s chief customer experience officer, said, “Connectivity has become an essential part of modern travel. For some, it is about staying productive, while for others, it’s about the convenience of sharing real-time updates. Whatever the purpose, we believe our guests will value the option to stay connected and enjoy this enhanced experience aboard our aircraft.”
