Swiggy To Deliver Food Using Drones, Got Approval and Funded By Zomato’s Investors

Yesterday, Skylark drones got approval for delivering food items using drones from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), and on top of that, they’ve also closed their pre-series A funding round with a great set of investments.

Info Edge Ventures, who is a major investor in Zomato, a competitor of Swiggy also invested in the round.

Skylark received a total of $3 million (about ₹22 crores) in this round from multiple investors including Indian Angel Network (IAN) fund, Fowler Westrup, AdvantEdge Founders, Redstart Labs, IKP, and Vimson group along with Info Edge Ventures.

This is a big thing in the Indian startup space and is the new talk of the town. Well! When something becomes the talk of the town, it’s sure to get by the ears of Netizens such as Twitteratis.

So, again they started a meme fest on the same, and well! Came up with some of the funniest we’ve seen in the last few days. Let’s take a look at the imagination and creativity of the funnybones around us.

Food delivery apps Zomato, Swiggy, and Dunzo received the approval of MoCA quite a while back and this is how people reacted back then.

“Testing of drone technology for last-mile connectivity and cost-effective cargo deliveries are a big leap in the air transportation of essential and non-essential supplies in India,” SpiceJet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said.

“Food delivery by drones is no longer just a pipe dream. It’s almost here,” the Zomato founder said earlier.

So, it was clear that the dream of making the deliveries more efficient would be coming to life soon and now with this Skylark-Swiggy collaboration, it’ll turn to reality soon.

But there’s one question that looms large, what about the jobs that would be lost due to the incorporation of drones in place of delivery agents?

Well! We would have to see what we can do there as it’ll cause a major downsizing for these food tech companies if the drone system becomes active.

But their time for that, till then keep following us and getting updated.
