    Riding two wheeler

A news report on Thursday morning created panic among millions of bike riders across the country. According to some media reports, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was planning to implement toll tax for two-wheelers from July 15. These reports also claimed that violators could be fined ₹2,000 for not following the toll rules. But has NHAI really issued such an order? Let’s uncover the truth behind these reports.

Do Bike Riders Really Have to Pay Toll Tax?

NHAI sources quickly responded to these media claims, clarifying that all such reports about toll tax being collected from two-wheelers through FASTag are false. The authority has not issued any order regarding toll collection from bikes.

    Nitin Gadkari Condemns the Reports

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also dismissed the reports, calling them completely false.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Some media houses are spreading misleading news about toll tax being levied on two-wheelers. No such proposal has been made. Two-wheelers will continue to be exempted from toll tax. Spreading sensational news without verifying facts is not responsible journalism. I strongly condemn it.”

Annual Pass to be Launched from August 15

Earlier, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, had announced that a new FASTag-based annual pass worth ₹3,000 will be launched starting August 15, 2025. This pass will be valid for one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. It will be applicable only for non-commercial vehicles.
